The Postgraduate Certificate in Global Entrepreneurship is run by CREATE, the university’s Centre for Enterprise and Innovation based at Inverness College UHI, and has been designed with sole traders, small business leaders and early stage entrepreneurs in mind.

The programme will develop participants’ practical entrepreneurial skills, leadership practices and support them to identify new growth potential and become more responsive to the ever changing domestic and global marketplace. They will also be introduced to a network of like-minded business people from which ideas can be shared, explored and developed in a supportive environment.

The one year course is taught 100 per cent online, meaning participants can balance study, at a time and place to suit them, with other commitments. It’s also highly practical, taking participants beyond theory to work on live case studies and assessments based on their own organisation and business interests.

The Postgraduate Certificate has evolved out of CREATE’s successful Catalyst programme, developed in partnership with Inverness Chamber of Commerce, Highlands and Islands Social Enterprise Zone and MAKAR, which business leaders said positively impacted on their ambition, confidence, leadership skills and business knowledge.

Carol Langston, head of CREATE and programme leader for the Postgraduate Certificate in Global Entrepreneurship, said: “Small businesses are important to the economy and to our communities, particularly in the Highlands and Islands where business leaders face a range of diverse challenges and opportunities in a dynamic and fast changing global market. Many small businesses spend a great deal of time being ‘busy’ and reactive, and while it’s essential to continue delivering existing products and services and maintaining your customer service, it’s also important to be proactive and to think about the future.  The ongoing challenge is how to develop and build a culture of creativity and innovation as the business grows so you can adapt and create new products or services.

“All our courses are designed with industry in mind and as part of a university, we work hard to ensure all learning is relevant and useful. This exciting, new programme in Global Entrepreneurship is both these things. Starting in January, it will allow participants to study on a part-time basis, whilst continuing in their business role or starting-up a new venture. All learning is applied, ensuring that the course is highly practical and moves beyond theory to meet the needs of learners and their businesses.  It is designed to strengthen and develop the individual, in order that they and their business can become more productive and grow.  It develops participants’ key leadership skills and gives them a recognised, internationally relevant postgraduate certificate, enhancing both their personal and business development.”

Participants will be supported by the experienced programme team and a personal business mentor.
