Profile: Pioneering UHI Inverness graduate lands teaching career

Switching courses proved the right decision for Nicole Chapman who is the first UHI Inverness student to graduate with BA (Hons) Moral and Philosophical Studies with Religious Education.

The 23-year-old from Stranraer is now a Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies probationary teacher at Douglas Academy in Milngavie.

The strong sense of community at UHI Inverness meant Nicole thrived in small classes, making lifelong friendships and forming valuable professional connections through school placements.

Nicole said:

“The practical experience, combined with academic study, ensures graduates are well equipped to enter their probationary year with strong knowledge and confidence.

“The teaching style at UHI Inverness was excellent, exactly what I had hoped for from university. All of my lecturers were supportive, approachable and dedicated to helping students succeed. The level of personal support I received was outstanding, particularly from my personal academic tutor, Mark Lindley-Highfield.

His guidance, encouragement and availability made a huge difference to my studies. He went above and beyond in supporting me through academic challenges and personal difficulties, and I am extremely grateful for his commitment and kindness.”
