Student story: Lilith puts her drama career ambitions centre stage
HNC Acting and Performance student Lilith Millar is proving that you can work towards building a future career in drama while juggling several commitments.
Lilith (25) from Nairn studies part time to balance her student life with helping her family and being a curling coach at Inverness Ice Rink. She was also cast as the mother in the end-of-year show Blood Wedding, which was a key role in the production.
Lilith did not take a conventional route to studies, as she did not join UHI Inverness as a school leaver, but she is determined to progress further to gain a degree.
She said:
“I started off studying an NC the previous year and then went into HNC this year and I’m doing it part time because it is a workload, but it is a lot of fun. There is a lot of memorising and when you have a lot of outside commitments, part time is better because you do it over the next two years. The HNC has probably been my favourite course because you get more freedom with your creative side. I found it has been really good, not only for meeting people and new experiences in a safe space when you may feel awkward, but also for the opportunities that come out of it.”
Now Lilith has a clear path to help her achieve her ambitions.
“Once I have done the HNC over this year and next year, I’m then going to be doing the HND and then I want to continue on with third and fourth year of the degree,” she said.
