UHI Inverness and RSE welcome new apprentices
More than 30 new apprentices have joined RSE’s award-winning apprenticeship programme as the firm continues to invest in the next generation of engineering talent.
The specialist engineering business in the UK water industry recently welcomed its latest cohort of first-year electrical instrumentation and mechanical apprentices to its Muir of Ord production facilities for an induction day recently, designed to introduce them to the business, their future colleagues and the exciting career opportunities ahead.
This year, more than 20 RSE Treatment Solutions modern apprentices have joined the RSE Apprenticeship Programme and will combine hands-on industry experience with college-based learning at UHI Inverness, one of the partners of the University of the Highlands and Islands.
Alongside welcoming its newest apprentices, RSE will also support an additional five Graduate Apprentices through UHI Inverness this year, further reinforcing our commitment to developing future engineering talent across the Highlands and beyond.
The induction day provided apprentices with an opportunity to meet key members of the RSE team who will support their development throughout the programme.
Mike Campbell, Apprenticeship Programme Manager, and John Patterson, Production Manager, shared insights into the expectations of the apprenticeship programme, outlining the skills, commitment and teamwork required both in the workshop and during their studies at college.
RSE was also delighted to welcome representatives from UHI Inverness, including Ally MacKay, Depute Curriculum Lead for Engineering Craft, and Brian McIntosh, Fabrication and Welding lecturer, alongside colleagues Erin Ferguson and Pippa LeFevre from the Business Solutions team. The visit gave the new apprentices an early introduction to their academic journey and offered valuable guidance on what to expect during their time at UHI Inverness.
The day also provided an opportunity for RSE and UHI Inverness representatives to discuss future collaboration and strengthen the partnership between the two organisations. During a tour of RSE’s production facilities, constructive conversations were held around course development and ensuring the training provided continues to meet the evolving needs of industry.

As part of the event, long-standing partner Wesco Anixter met with the new recruits after agreeing to subsidise apprentice toolkits for the second consecutive year. Senior Manager Zubi Hussain and Business Development Manager Jodie Anderson attended the induction and presented the toolkits and goody bags to each apprentice, demonstrating the company’s continued commitment to supporting skills development within the engineering sector.
