UHI Inverness appoints Dr Lindsay Snodgrass as interim principal

Dr Lindsay Snodgrass has been appointed as the interim principal and chief executive of UHI Inverness.

The new appointment follows Professor Chris O’Neil’s decision to step down after nine years in the post.

Dr Snodgrass, a vice principal at UHI Inverness since 2022, took up the role on Monday, 7 September. 

Dr Snodgrass said:

“It’s an honour for me to take over the reins from Professor O’Neil, who has been a passionate and inspiring leader and a supportive and trusted colleague for nearly a decade. The current challenges across the college and university sectors are well-known, and it is within this context that we at UHI Inverness will continue to adapt, innovate and support our students to gain valuable qualifications and secure rewarding careers, making a significant contribution to the economic opportunities in the Highlands.”

Dr Snodgrass was brought up in the Highlands and joined UHI Inverness in 2014 leading the curriculum for Essential Skills, Supported Education and Community Based Learning. Since then, she has held several senior roles including Head of Student Services and Director of Student Experience & Quality, becoming part of the executive leadership team in 2016, and has been Vice Principal Curriculum, Student Experience and Quality since 2022.

As a passionate advocate of social justice and the transformational power of education, Dr Snodgrass’s focus as vice principal has been on widening access and inclusion, quality enhancement and supporting students across their learner journey. Having completed a Doctorate at Glasgow University in 2024 - producing research on the experiences and outcomes of care-experienced learners in Scotland’s colleges - this continues to be a priority area for Dr Snodgrass.   

Professor O’Neil said:
