From Royal duties to Royal Marines:UHI Inverness student shines during 'most productive year' of his life
The final term of the academic year has been particularly busy for student Keiran O’Regan. He accompanied Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal during a recent trip to the Highlands while also studying to complete his course at UHI Inverness.
Keiran (17) from Alness is applying to join the Royal Marines, which has been a three-month process so far. To help him fulfil his ambitions, he has gained vital experience by studying the Level 4 Preparation for Uniformed and Emergency Services course at UHI Inverness. For the past year he has also acted as a cadet for Joanie Whiteford, the Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty.
This has involved him being on duty during official services, ceremonies and parades, and he was also in attendance during Princess Anne’s visit to Wester Ross. He was fortunate to exchange pleasantries with her and spotted himself on the TV news later that night.

Keiran was selected for the role after being judged the best cadet of the 1st Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadets, Ross Company in Dingwall, which he joined four years ago.
“This has definitely been the most productive year of my life,” said Keiran.
While studying at UHI Inverness he has enjoyed learning new skills, working as a team and improving his fitness.
And Keiran holds his UHI Inverness lecturer Rab Boyd in very high regard.
“I think in all my years in education, from primary school through to high school and college, he is the best teacher I have ever had,” said Keiran.
