Once I have submitted my application when will I hear back?

Once you have submitted your application you will receive an acknowledgement by email. This will contain details of the course you applied for, how to monitor the progress of your application and also contact details if you have any questions or queries.

If your application has been successful, you will then be given either a conditional or unconditional offer. 

If your application is unsuccessful, we will endeavour to offer a suitable alternative where available. In instances where we are unable to offer a suitable alternative, we encourage you to get back in touch with info.ic@uhi.ac.uk and a member of the team will discuss options with you. 

We will keep you as up to date as possible with the progress of your application.

Our admissions and curriculum teams consider and process all applications. As a general guide, you will either be notified of a decision or invited to interview as below:

• By 31st March for applications submitted up to 15th January
• By 30th April for applications submitted up to 28th February
• By 31st May for applications submitted up to 31st March
• By 30th June for applications submitted up to 30th April
• By 18th July for applications submitted up to 31st May

Please note that any applications submitted after 31st May will be considered if places are available. You will be notified of the outcome by mid-August, after exam results have been issued.

How do I accept my offer?

To accept or decline your offer by e-mail, please reply to text.ic@uhi.ac.uk. 

• Include your name, applicant number, course code and the words 'accept' or 'decline.' 

You can also accept your place by logging into the Applicant Portal.

If you have any other queries regarding your application, please e-mail admissions.ic@uhi.ac.uk quoting your applicant number.

When does my course start?

Full-time courses usually start in August/September and January. You'll find information on the start date on your chosen course page.

How long is the course?

All full time further education courses are typically taught over 40 weeks, starting in August and finishing around May the following year. 

I would like to change the course I applied for, what should I do?

You cannot change the course you have applied for. You will need to reapply for a different course. 

What is the difference between a conditional and unconditional offer?

A conditional offer means you must obtain further qualifications or meet certain criteria before you are accepted.

An unconditional offer means that you have been accepted onto the courses and are guaranteed a place.

I’ve been told I’m on a waiting list. What does this mean and when will I find out if I have a place or not?

This means that you have met our entry requirements, but we can't currently offer you a place on the course. This is usually due to a higher number of students applying compared to the number of spots available. 

If another accepted student decides not to attend that course, it opens up a spot for the next person on the waitlist. Our admissions team will keep you informed of your place on the waiting list.

What if I have a particular support need or underlying health condition?

You will have access to a full range of support once you have enrolled. If a Personal Learning Support Plan is in place for you, staff will work together to take forward what is recommended. You will be allocated a Personal Development Advisor who is your first point of contact.

How can I access my timetable?

In July, you will receive an e-mail (sent to your personal email) with a link to an outline timetable containing the dates and times of classes.
