Nationals and Highers

You can study a range of National 4, National 5 and Higher qualifications with us.

These are the same SQA courses commonly offered in Scottish secondary schools, following the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. They include a combination of coursework and externally marked assessments, with a final exam that you will sit on campus at UHI Inverness.

National 5 qualifications typically cover core subjects and are broadly equivalent to GCSEs in the rest of the UK, while Highers are the next level up and are a key qualification for entry into college or universities.

At UHI Inverness, you can study a maximum of two SQA Higher and/or National subjects in one academic year. These courses require regular study and commitment, as they follow the same academic standards and timelines as school-based courses, with final results issued by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
